Two assailants, who fired at a man yesterday — later declared dead — were nabbed by police at Sector 21 yesterday evening within minutes of the incident through joint picketing of Dwarka police and traffic personnel.

ACP, Dwarka, Rajendra Singh, said, “This operation happened under the scheme of joint picketing or Kila Bandi scheme. This scheme was recently launched in Dwarka for prevention of crime.”

The incident happened at around 6.30 pm.

Sharing the details of the operation, the ACP said, “The firing in which a person was killed happened yesterday evening at 22/23 Sector signal point near Pochanpur. The deceased and the assailants both had come from Bihar just two days ago. They had some rivalry in Siwan, Bihar. To take revenge, the assailants opened fire at the deceased, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The local police and traffic personnel worked together to nab the fleeing assailants at Sector 21 Metro station within minutes of incident and recovered two loaded pistols and ammunition from the nabbed criminals.”

The deceased, Firoz Khan, was a resident of Siwan District in Bihar. At the time of the incident, the deceased was driving, and was intercepted by the bike-borne assailants. “The accused fired nearly six rounds at the deceased, who later collapsed on the ground. Four bullets pierced his body and two others hit the car,” said the police.

The police managed to arrest the accused after the local police picket intercepted them. The accused were identified as Sabir Hussain and Amzad Ali, also residents of Siwan.

After preliminary investigation, it was found that the duo was hired by Rayees Khan, who is currently in jail in Bihar. “They are contract killers hired by Rayees. They were paid to kill Firoz Khan. This could be a case of gang war. The deceased dealt in sale and purchase of properties and there were several criminal cases registered against him in Bihar,"the police revealed.
