FedAOA to initiate online awareness wing

FedAOA to initiate online awareness wing

The Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FedAOA) of Ghaziabad is all set to initiate its online awareness wing to spread understanding of online abuse on various social media platforms and online frauds. The initiative is aimed at both the young and the older generations — the two categories, which according to the members, are worst affected by the ills of the internet.

Speaking to City Spidey, Alok Kumar, president of FedAOA, told City Spidey that there have been several instances where school and college-going children face severe trauma due to problems or abuse they face on social media websites. “While the children are getting more and more attracted to social media, the risk of online abuse is also multiplying. Young children often unwittingly expose themselves to strangers, while senior citizens fall prey to scammers, who often pose as bank officials and steal banking related information,” Kumar said.

The initiative is being headed by Shaili Singh, a resident of Exotica Elegance in Idnirapura. Singh, who is also the head of the department of Computer Science in Army Public School in Noida, told City Spidey that the initiative is being conducted in coordination with Rakshit Tandon, a cyber security expert working with the Internet and Mobile Association of India.

Singh further explained to City Spidey, “Just like our real world, the virtual world has bad people. And it’s easier for children to fall into their traps due to lack of awareness. Similarly, senior citizens use smartphones without understanding the cons of the devices. Due to lack of awareness, their devices can be hacked and personal data, including banking details, can be stolen.”

“The first major drive will be conducted jointly for many societies, and it will be followed by smaller regular workshops in individual societies,” Singh added.
