Almost 148 housing projects remain affected by the slow pace of construction of this expressway
Residents of Palam Vihar have no idea of how to make their voice heard. The inordinate delay in the completion of Northern Peripheral Road, or Dwarka Expressway, has made life a difficult deal for them.
Announced in 2007, the expressway, one of the most-talked about projects, has been waiting for completion for a decade now.
The 18-km road was to connect Dwarka Phase II and Palam Vihar to NH 8, near Kherki Dhaula and pass Pataudi Road. The stretch was expected to decongest the traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
It was taken up by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and later handed over to NHAI in 2017.
It was one of the property hotspots of Delhi-NCR, but slow pace of construction of highways and litigation issues have dashed all hopes.
More than a lakh of families remain impacted by the slow progress — commuting to Delhi and Kherki Dhaula is a nightmare for most.
The residents had protested against the same almost a month back.
“To reach our society, we have to cross the Bajhgera railway crossing — and with 50 trains passing the crossing and barriers closing for 15 minutes each — we have to face a constant delay in the travel time,” complained Dhruv tendon, a resident of Aura in Sector 110A.
With the expressway, it is expected to take just five minutes to reach Delhi and 20 minutes to Kherki Dhaula from Palam Vihar. Currently, it takes 30 minutes to reach Delhi, and an hour-and-a-half to reach to Gurgaon.
Speaking to City Spidey, Yashesh Yadav, president of the Aura RWA, said, “We are disgusted with the slow pace of completion of this important project. Almost 148 housing projects are affected by this slow pace, and we have already filed a petition in High Court for the same. The authorities keep giving deadlines, but the issue remains unresolved.”
