The petrol pump falls in the way of an under-construction underpass.

HUDA allots alternative site to MG Road petrol pump

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has allotted an alternative site to a petrol pump, which falls in the alignment of an underpass being constructed on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) Road. The site has been identified at Sector 42, a prime location on Golf Course Road.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had written to HUDA about a week back about the fuel station.

Yashpal Yadav, administrator of HUDA in Gurgaon, said, “We are shifting the MG Road petrol pump to the Sector 42 site. We will hand over ‘encumbrance-free’ possession of the plot to the pump owner within a week. Further, we have filed a petition in a local court for an early hearing to vacate a stay regarding this land. A man who does not want the land to be used for a petrol pump has acquired a stay order from a local court against us three days ago. This is a project of NHAI and  we are confident we shall convince the court and request it to vacate the stay.”

Yadav added, “After assessing about four sites, the owner of the petrol pump found the Sector 42 site the most suitable. This exercise has taken several months. The Supreme Court had issued a direction that HUDA cannot take any coercive action against the owner of the petrol pump unless he is provided a suitable alternate location.”

After this direction of the apex court, the NHAI has stopped construction of the underpass at the spot (on MG Road) where the petrol pump is located.

On January 22, Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar had asked the HUDA administrator to remove the petrol pump within seven days. The CM was then reviewing progress of under-construction infrastructure projects after inaugurating underpasses at Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower.

The NHAI is constructing an L-shaped underpass for commuters heading from the Iffco Chowk metro station towards Delhi via Sikandarpur. The underpass will save time of commuters who now get stuck in massive and perennial traffic jams at Iffco Chowk.
