This weekend (February 24-25), Gurgaon is going to see a spate of colours at Leisure Valley Ground in Sector 29. It’s HUDA’s annual flower show. Held every year, this show brings together horticulture enthusiasts from across India to raise awareness about the environment and also to give residents of the city a one-stop solution for their horticultural buys.

“We have sent invitations to nearly 200 participants who have nurseries or have unique horticultural specimens that can attract visitors,” said a HUDA official. He said they are hoping more than 150 participants will turn up at the event. Last year the event witnessed a footfall of 10,000. Participants arrive not only from the NCR, but also from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other parts of India.

“Our primary purpose is to promote greenery and create awareness about the environment,” said Jogi Ram, executive engineer, HUDA horticulture. “The visitors can also buy flowers and other plant species from here.”

Huda gives away prizes to the best three participants, and others in various special categories on the last day of the show.

Vivek Kamboj, director of the NGO Hariyali, said, “This is a great event by HUDA that inspires people to keep their surroundings clean, and also witness pretty plants while they are at it.”

Vinay Pratap Singh, deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, will be the chief guest on Day 1, and D Suresh, divisional commissioner of Gurgaon, will give away the prizes on the concluding day.

Apart from the burst of colour, there will also be cultural programmes, such as a group dance competition, a solo dance, a fancy dress competition, a spot painting competition and a baby show.
