Drive slow near Gurgaon’s Mall Mile... You can lose your money or your life

The signal-free route leading to the Mall Mile encourages overspeeding, which in turn has caused several accidents. The traffic police is now launching a drive to impose fines on commuters who violate rules on speed limits.

To check accidents near the Mall Mile due to overspeeding of vehicles, the traffic police has decided to boost its presence on the spot and launch a drive to impose fines on commuters who violate rules on speed limits. Licences of repeat offenders could also be suspended for three months.

To make commuters aware of the "no speeding zone", the traffic police have also installed speed signages at several corners of the stretch.

The speed limit for light vehicles on the stretch has been set at 50 kmph, while the speed limit for heavy vehicles and three-wheelers are 30 kmph and 40 kmph respectively.

Several shopping malls, offices, condominiums and other commercial establishments are located in the vicinity of the Mall Mile. This explains the heavy traffic congestion on the stretch, which makes it accident-prone.

“Several accidents have been reported near the Mall Mile. The stretch is signal-free — and this encourages overspeeding. To control the situation, we are going to impose stiff penalties on violators. Also, officials have now been deputed at strategic corners of the stretch with speed guns,” said Hira Singh, ACP (traffic).

Singh also added that certain diversions near the Mall Mile would be blocked by installing jersey barriers. “These points are adding to the congestion and leading to mishaps,” he added.

As part of the road safety and traffic decongestion initiative, traffic cops will also deter commuters who park their vehicles on the road. Six cranes have been deployed on the stretch for removing illegally parked vehicles.
