Following the outrage over the alleged molestation of two minor girls in Rishabh Cloud 9 (a high-rise residential society of Indirapuram) on Friday, the Ghaziabad police have arrested one person. Police sources said that the miscreant was identified from the images taken from the CCTV footage of the society.
Sachin Malik, SHO of Indirapuram police station, stated, “A 30-year-old man named Naresh has been arrested from a slum near the society in connection to this incident. Naresh is a daily wage labourer from West Bengal and he has been living in Indirapuram with his family for several years."
An FIR was lodged at the Indirapuram police station under Section 354 of the IPC (Assault a woman with the intent of outraging her modesty) and certain sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. On being asked how the police zeroed in on the miscreant, Malik said that the arrest was made on the basis of the images captured by the society’s CCTV cameras. He also stated that the parents of the victims have corroborated the identity of the miscreant.
The police has also recorded the statements of the victims.
The incident, which took place during Holi, highlighted the fact that despite the existing security arrangements of high-rise residential complexes, children and women still fall prey to miscreants.
According to Amit Tiwari, the father of the two minor girls (they are twins), the incident occurred while his daughters were playing holi in the society compound.
“The incident took place at around 12.20 pm. I was keeping an eye on my daughters from the balcony and suddenly saw an unidentified man pick one of them up. To my horror he started kissing her. While he was molesting her, my other daughter tried to free her sister. The man then started molesting her,” Tiwari told City Spidey.
On being questioned about the presence of an unidentified person inside the society, Manish Kumar, the society’s security supervisor told City Spidey that they were short staffed on Holi day. "The man had sneaked in through the back gate of the society. There was only one security guard manning the gate,” Kumar maintained.
