Parents protest fee hike in Ryan International School, Gurgaon

After Noida and Ghaziabad, it's Gurgaon's turn to take a stand against the steep charges levied by schools.

Parents protest fee hike in Ryan International School, Gurgaon

More than 50 parents on Wednesday protested in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Mini Secretariat against the 15% hike in annual fee in all branches of Ryan International School. The school hiked fees in Sector 31, Sector 40 and Maruti Kunj branches in Gurgaon.

They demanded the district administration's immediate intervention and a rollback of the hiked fee.

“Every year, the fee is hiked by at least 15 per cent,” said Sunita Sabbarwal, whose son studies in Class IV of the Sector 31 branch.

“The district education department has no control over these schools, most of which are owned by prominent politicians or ‘well-connected’ individuals,” said Vasistha Dabas, another parent whose children study in Class III and Class VI, Sector 31 branch.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon deputy commissioner TL Satya Prakash said, “As per the norms, private schools cannot increase the fee by more than 10 per cent every year. And when they do, they should inform parents well in advance. We have asked the district education officer to collect data on how many schools have hiked their fee and on what grounds.”
