To reduce the role of touts in securing driving licence and also ensure driving licence applicants themselves take the test, the district administration has installed four CCTV cameras in a decoy ice-cream cart at the driving track.

The cameras are connected to a monitor in the office of the sub-divisional magistrate at the Mini Secretariat from where the test is monitored.

The administration spent a lakh on installing four CCTV cameras, one DVR, internet connection and a television screen and, of course, the decoy cart.

The administration has also started issuing token numbers to make sure that applicants do not skip taking the test.

“We wanted to simplify the process of getting the driving licence. People often complained of touts charging them hefty amounts from applicants who wanted to avoid standing in long queues and to avoid the driving test. We installed the cameras so that the entire process is transparent and easy to monitor,” explained sub-divisional magistrate Bharat Bhushan Gogia.

He added, “With the token number system, we have formed a team that checks the tally of applicants and maintains the data of how many cleared the test and how many get the driving licences.”

The test is held between 9 am and1 pm from Monday to Friday.

According to data, approximately 100 applicants take the driving test every day in two batches of 50 each. The driving test track, prepared in 2013, is located near Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
