Here are four steps to free Noida of plastic...

The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association has sent a circular to resident welfare bodies of all the sectors seeking a complete ban on polythene bags in their respective areas. The Federation of Noida RWAs has urged individual RWA leaders of the city to keep a vigil in the market areas under their jurisdiction.

On the other hand, the Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association (NOFAA) is spreading awareness in individual residential societies about the benefits of using jute and paper bags in place of plastic bags.

Rajiva Singh, president of NOFAA informed City Spidey that on a weekly basis NOFAA members will conduct meetings with different Apartment Owner Associations of the city to sensitise them against the use of polythene and plastic. “Some societies have already fully abandoned the use of plastic bags. These are Overseas Apartment, Windsor Greens and Stellar Kings in Sector 50,” Singh added.

NP Singh, president, Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association stated, “Through our circular, we have requested all RWAs to undertake earnest measures that will result in a polythene-free Noida.”

The circular has a four-pronged mandate:

1. RWAs should hold regular meetings with residents to educate them about the harmful effects of polythene.

2. Pamphlets on the adverse effects of polythene to be distributed in all residential and commercial sectors.

3. RWAs to organise awareness marches in their respective sectors.

4. Notices and hoardings, cautioning people about the use of plastic, to be put up in all residential sectors. RWAs to instruct/urge all shopkeepers to comply with the ban.
