On Tuesday, a monkey brutally attacked a four-year-old boy who resides in Prangan Apartment, a residential society in Noida Sector 62.

According to Umesh Kumar, secretary of Shatabdi Rail Vihar, after the attack the boy had been admitted to Fortis Hospital. The doctors had administered stitches and kept him under observation for a few hours. “Since the wounds are very deep, the doctors are saying that a plastic surgery might be required,” Kumar added.

According to residents of Sector 62, the monkey menace has increased in the last ten days. Nearly 20 people of the sector including 15 children have been bitten.

Sunita Chakraborty, a resident of Designer Park, told City Spidey that on Sunday a monkey had attacked her daughter when she was cycling in the society premises accompanied by her uncle. “The monkey attacked her from behind and she sustained injuries on her hands and legs. We had taken her to Fortis Hospital where the doctor administered some injections,” Sunita recounted.

CP Singh, president of Apartment Owners Association of Designer Park, said, “There are around 10 monkeys in the sector that are creating havoc. One particularly has become uncontrollably aggressive.”

So what has the civic body done to resolve the menace? “We wrote a letter to the District Forest Officer requesting him to catch the monkeys. However, yesterday he sent us a disappointing reply stating that he has no resources for the same. He suggested that we approach private monkey catchers,” Singh replied.

According to Singh, the AOA will now approach the Noida Authority officials.

City Spidey contacted RK Mishra, Additional CEO of Noida Authority. He said, “I have not seen any monkey attacking people. Noida Authority is busy sterilising stray dogs. However, now that I know about these monkey attacks, I will definitely do something. Our team will soon visit the residents of Sector 62.”
