What's happening to the dead trees of Dwarka?

What’s happening to the dead trees in Dwarka? They are being stolen, if residents are to be believed. Hundreds of dead sheesham trees on the sides of roads have been missing.

Ramesh Mumukshu, RWA vice-president, Sector 16B, Janta Pockets, confirmed, “I have been observing that the dead trees from the park near IP University are being stolen. I have seen some people cutting the trees and taking them away. The same is happening in the area near Golf Link Road, Sector 18B. DDA should look into the issue immediately.”

The parks and vacant lands and green areas in sectors 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 are prime targets, since the areas are more desolate. According to local people, the boundary walls of green areas are often breached.

Surendra Kumar, a resident of Sector 18, said, “Theft of trees is common now in the area. DDA should pay this issue more attention. Officials should count the dead and green trees and monitor them periodically. Also, the community should be contacted to keep a vigil on such activities in their areas.”

A DDA official, on condition of anonymity, said, “We’ll do what we can to stop this practice.”
