The workers called the project a brainchild of the erstwhile SP-led state government. If the BJP had to inaugurate it, they would have to build another one, they said.
In what can be seen as an effort to discredit the BJP, Samajwadi Party (SP) workers from Ghaziabad inaugurated the Hindon elevated road ahead of its due date of inauguration. The workers cut the red ribbon, calling the project a brainchild of the erstwhile SP-led state government.
Speaking to City Spidey, Rahul Chaudhary, Ghaziabad SP president, said that the elevated road, the first of its kind, was the brainchild of the erstwhile Akhilesh Yadav-led UP government.
Only a week back, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority awarded the much-awaited environment clearance to the Hindon elevated road.
“Over 90 per cent of the work on the elevated road was completed during the previous SP government, and only the finishing touches were left. All the funding was generated by our government. The final work was being delayed by the BJP government to show the public that it was their feat,” Chaudhary said.
According to sources, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) was planning to get the project inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi. Adding to the insult, Chaudhary said, “If the BJP wants to inaugurate an elevated road, they will have to construct another one.”
Four SP workers were detained by Ghaziabad Police following the incident, and the entry points to the elevated road were closed down.
A complaint in this regard was also lodged at the Sihani Gate police station by GDA.
