Homebuyers find an ally in Anna Hazare...will they now get their flats?

Home buyers of Noida and Greater Noida will participate in a protest against the BJP Government, led by none other than anti-corruption crusader, Anna Hazare. The protest to be staged in Delhi’s Shaheed Park on March 23, is essentially a protest against the government’s apathy towards the appointment of a strong Lok Pal. “At the time of elections, both the central and state government had promised us that they would intervene and ensure that our flats are delivered by the developers. However, their promises have fallen apart. We are also going to protest against this failure,” said a homebuyer.

Last Friday, a group of homebuyers had met Anna Hazare in Maharashtra Sadan, to solicit his support. Pramod Kumar, a homebuyer of the JP group informed City Spidey that Hazare’s team has confirmed that they will support the cause of the homebuyers. “They have also granted us permission to join them on March 23,” said Kumar.

According to Kumar, the homebuyers will meet Hazare’s team today to discuss the agenda of for the protest. “We shall raise various concerns of the homebuyer fraternity during the protest. Until now only the homebuyers who have invested with Amrapali and JP Group have confirmed their participation. However, we are going to rope in more homebuyers from other residential realty projects. Around 5,000 buyers are expected to take part in the protest,” Kumar added.

On the other hand, KK Kaushal, a buyer informed City Spidey, that although UP CM, Yogi Adityanath had formed a committee to solve builder-buyer issues; no results have been achieved by it. “About 70,000 homebuyers are facing financial problems because they have invested their lifelong savings into various builder projects,” Kaushal rued.

Incidentally, most homebuyers of GB Nagar have paid almost 90 percent of the total price (of the flat) at the time of booking. This happened way back in 2009-10. Today about 96 residential real estate projects are stuck in Noida. In Greater Noida the number stands at 206. In all these cases, developers cite a financial crunch.

Now after obtaining the veteran crusader’s nod, the question that arises is this- Will Anna Hazare’s support be instrumental in securing their flats from the developers?
