A self-defence camp constituting of 15 days started on Wednesday (March 21) at Sector 3, DDA park, Dwarka. The camp will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 in the noon every day.

A social volunteer organisation, “Choti Si Khushi’’ has organised the camp with the support of Delhi Police (Dwarka District). Nearly 50 women and girls from under privileged areas and the Dwarka societies are being taught self-defence techniques from Delhi Police Constable Rekha Devi.

In the first session the trainer demonstrated basic techniques of holding hands, hair and neck apart from handling tough situations on roads and other places. She further emphasised that women and girls need to raise their confidence.

“Women who hesitate can be easily suppressed or forced to compromise in tough situations. I am trying to remove this hesitation and fear and hope that after 15 days these women and girls will be completely different people,” said Rekha Devi.

Priya Bhardwaj, a volunteer of Choti Si Khushi said, “In this camp we planned to provide something different than routine education and personality development. We are trying to boost the morale and strength of these women who have faced stifling situations in their lives. Anyone can join this camp. We, the volunteers from different societies of Dwarka are also attending the camp.”
