Will DPS Indirapuram comply with parents' demands? Parents met the school management today to discuss the issue

A group of parents of children studying in DPS Indirapuram has decided to not pay the school fees until the school has taken a decision on its recent fee hike. Members of DPS Indirapuram Parents Welfare Association also held a meeting with the school’s management and submitted a letter signed by 237 parents against the school’s decision.

Parents said that the school had recently hiked fees, which included other heads apart from tuition fees. “They have hiked the annual charge, added another Rs 500 to accommodate the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations, and also increased bus charges, among others. These charges are unjustified and are against the interest of parents,” said Priyanka Rana, president of DPS Indirapuram Parents Welfare Association.

Rana added that the meeting was fruitful in that the school’s management heard them out and said they would get back in a few days.

Speaking to City Spidey, Meeta Rai, principal of the school, said that the management explained the need for the fee hike to parents. “The school has recently upgraded its infrastructure. We have added, among other things, a rooftop play area, a skating rink, sports courts, and 60 new and upgraded buses with our own drivers. This has come at a huge cost, which is why we have hiked school fees,” Rai said.

But would the hike be rolled back?

“Parents have demanded a cancellation of the hike, but that’s not possible, since we have already spent on infrastructure,” Rai said. “However, now the decision rests on the school management.”

Parents said that may resort to protests if the school management did not make changes to the school fees.
