Here's how an uncovered water tank is affecting residents of Sec 22B, Ggn

The summer is barely here and residents of Sector 22B, Gurgaon, have already started facing water problems. They say that despite repeated complaints to the authorities over the past two months, their main source of water, the tank at the boosting station, is not covered properly and that they receive dirty water.

They also say that a damaged water pipeline is causing the water to flow out on to the road, thus creating a health hazard.

“How can the authorities ignore our requests for covering the main water tank, especially when we use the water from drinking? water for drinking and for our pets?” said Bhim Singh Yadav, president of the RWA.

“Also, in the case of the damaged pipeline, repairs have carried out thrice in the last four months, but the situation remains the same. Temporary repairs won’t work any more and the pipeline needs to be changed now,” said Poonam Verma, a resident.

Residents said that they had even visited the boosting station and had complained to the staff, but that none of them paid any heed to the problem.

“If the issue is not resolved within two days, we will protest outside the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram [MCG] commissioner’s office. Water is one of the basic amenities that one needs. We are only demanding clean water, which is our right,” said Sarita Rana, a resident.

Officials of MCG said the matter had come to their notice only on Thursday and that they would take prompt action.

“I have assigned the task to the executive engineer and the problem will be resolved shortly. If the water supply is dirty, we will check what's causing it and the issue will be solved in two days,” said Yashpal Yadav, commissioner, MCG.
