Ghaziabad parents to undertake their own Dilli Chalo march in April Parents protest fee hike

Tired of no action from local administrators and state ministers, aggrieved parents of Ghaziabad schoolchildren have now planned to march from Ghaziabad to Delhi to talk directly to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

The two-day march, set to take place on April 28 and 29, is against the central government's failure to curb arbitrary fee hikes, enforce existing rules and bring about a uniform national fee regulatory Act.

It is more of a Dilli Chalo protest march for Seema Tyagi, president of Ghaziabad Parents Association.

“We have been approaching the government for years but nothing has changed so far. We have been promised a solution but nothing has come of the promises yet. We were told there would be a state fee Act in Uttar Pradesh, but that too is biased towards schools. There are existing guidelines of CBSE and state NOCs but nobody enforces them. The schools charge whatever they want and there is money involved in everything. It is commercialisation of education,” said Tyagi.

The planned march will start off at MMH College in Ghaziabad and head towards Delhi via UP Gate. “We will halt for a while somewhere on the route and will be joined by parents from Noida and Haryana. Parent associations from Jharkhand too have pledged their support. Apart from parents, we have urged NGOs, political parties and educationists, among others, to join our cause. We will also submit our demands directly to the HRD ministry,” Tyagi added.
