Protesting residents of Gaur City 1 and 2
Residents of Gaur City 1 and 2 in Noida Extension staged a protest against the builder for hiking maintenance charges without first providing basic amenities. The protest took place today on the premises.
The sprawling society is still under construction and is set to have more than 4,000 flats when complete. Thousands of families have shifted in over the past eight months.
According to residents, they received a notice from the builder last week announcing that maintenance charges would be hiked by almost 40 per cent from April 1. All attempts to get in touch with the builder, however, failed.
Amit Yadav, a resident, said, "We are currently paying Rs 2 per sq ft, as opposed to the other societies in the neighbourhood, which are paying Rs 1.5 per sq ft. Despite paying higher charges, we are receiving third-grade service from the builder,” he said.
Residents said they were struggling with security, electricity load and poor-quality water. Neeraj Kumar, a resident, said they were forced to drink hard water, as the society was yet to receive Ganga jal supply. “The water being supplied to us is not potable and can cause serious health issues,” he said.
Residents added that whenever they tried discussing the matter with the builder's officials, all they got were rude replies.
They also said that the builder had not obtained the occupancy and completion certificates from the Greater Noida Authority yet, due to which they were not being able to register their flats.
