GB Nagar district administration is keen to shut down illegal hotels, guest houses and PG accommodations in the district. The administration has urged residents to come forward and report about establishments running without registration.

All hotels and guest houses in the city will be sent notices by the city magistrate to get registered under the Sarai Act of 1867 before April 30, following which the administration will initiate sealing drives.

According to the administration, at present 37 hotels, guest houses and PG accommodations are registered in the district, though a far higher number is operational.

Registration of the establishments will, according to officials, ensure that identity of the guests is verified. This will help to counter security threats.

City Magistrate Mahendra Kumar Singh told City Spidey, “After registering, these hotels, guest houses or PG accommodations will have to maintain details of all guests in a register, and will have to submit their registers to the administration every month.”

Notices have been sent to around 90-100 hotels, PG accommodations and guest house owners.
