Delhi's water crisis will be over in three days, says DJB. Find out why

For the past one and a half months, various parts of Delhi have been experiencing severe water shortage.

Delhi's water crisis will be over in three days, says DJB. Find out why

Delhi residents may get some relief from water shortage in the next two or three days. Delhi Jal Board (DJB) today claimed that the Haryana government had released an additional 150 cusecs of Yamuna water for Delhi on Monday. For the past one and a half months, Haryana was releasing 350 cusecs of water every day, as opposed to the 450 cusecs Delhi needs. This, according to DJB, was the reason behind the water crisis in Delhi.

A senior DJB official confirmed that a delegation had visited officials of the Haryana government for negotiations on the issue.

“After the first meeting, Haryana has released an additional 150 cusecs of Yamuna water for Delhi. So we are hopeful that we will receive 450 cusecs of water every day from Haryana,” said a DJB official.

“The 150 cusecs were released today, so it will take at least 48 hours to reach Delhi, where it will be sent to water treatment plants. So in the next two or three days, DJB should be able to provide adequate water to its residents,” he added.

DJB had approached the Supreme Court last week, urging it to direct the Haryana government to release the full volume of water to Delhi. The apex court today fixed April 16 for a decision on the issue.

This is not the first time that DJB has had to approach the Supreme Court about this issue. Every summer, Haryana and Delhi are back in the news for their battle over Yamuna water.
