Pipeline bursts in Gurgaon's Citizens Park; residents wonder why so often...

Yesterday evening, a leak in the water pipeline at Citizens Park in Sector 15 resulted in wastage of copious amounts of waste. Water supply was also disrupted in the area.

The park is located along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

Residents who went for a late-evening walk in the park noticed water gushing out near the petrol pump on the expressway. The water inundated the park and walkways.

Rajaram, a resident, said, “I saw water gushing out from the rupture point. The reason of leakage is not known, but we informed the operator of the boosting station in our sector about the leak. We believe he alerted his seniors and around 5.30 pm yesterday, and some people came to fix the problem.”

Satbir Singh, sub-divisional engineer, GMDA, said, “We sent our men to fix the leakage as soon as we came to know of the incident. We haven’t been able to figure out the reason for the leak yet.”

Residents of Sector 15, Parts I and II, are unhappy with the frequent pipeline bursts.

Ramesh Vashistha, a resident Sector 15, Part I, said, “Same thing happened in Rose Garden, Part I, about three days ago and water inundated the park. These incidents keep happening due to the negligence of the engineers and the operator, who don’t maintain the supply line properly. The leakages and bursts often cause water shortage.”

Last year too, supply lines were frequently damaged due to construction of underpasses at Signature Tower junction and Rajiv Chowk.
