Home buyers of Amrapali Golf City in Noida Extension have finally tasted success after a liquor shop on the premises was shut down on April 4. They had been protesting against the opening of a liquor shop within the society for quite some time.

The builder had, residents alleged, thoughtlessly allowed a liquor shop to open on rent.

Residents said the liquor shop invariably attracted a large number of strangers in the society and had put the safety and security of residents under threat.

Amrapali Golf City spans 60 acres of land and has more than 1,500 flats.

Abhishek Kumar, president of Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), told City Spidey, “The shop opened a few days back, but no liquor shop is allowed inside the society — it’s against the rules.”

NEFOWA members have also written to the district administration highlighting violation of rules in granting licenses for operating liquor shops near residential societies. No liquor shop can be given license in open close proximity to a residential society, school, hospital, place of worship, factory or at the entrance of a market or residential colony.

Moreover, convenience shops are meant to cater to the needs of the apartment owners and not outsiders.
