Crossings Republik liquor shop protest goes mobile; gets a deadline in return

Residents of Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad have now added wheels to their protest against the recently opened liquor shops in their neighbourhood. A bus full of residents headed to the residence of minister of state, Atul Garg, to meet him and later headed to the district collectorate to stage a protest there today.

The shopsin question were opened in Mahagun Mart near Crossings glass gate recently. A beer shop and a liquor shop came up in the mart on 1st and 2nd April respectively, said residents.

Residents are concerned that the shops would invite anti-social elements who would resort to drinking in the open apart from creating ruckus in the area.

Vikas Kamboj, a resident of Mahagun Mascot, told City Spidey, “We once again met the officials of the district administration today. Despite assurances of immediate relocation, the owners of the liquor shops were putting up banners and hoardings in front of these shops. Following our protest today, we were assured that our problem will be resolved by April 12. If it is not resolved by then, the size of the residents’ protest will increase every day and more residents will join in,” Kamboj said.

“During previous meetings, we were not given any particular deadline. This time, we have been assured that the shops will be removed by April 12. Our protest will continue till these shops are removed,” said Nishant Joshi, secretary of Mahagun Mascot, Apartment Owners Association.

Speaking to City Spidey, Gyanendra Singh, ADM administration of Ghaziabad said that the owners of both the shops have been asked to relocate immediately. “Meanwhile, they have been asked to remove any hoardings or banners they might have put up in the area. The police and the excise inspector have been asked to keep vigil so that anti-social elements do not gather in that area. The shop owners have assured that the problem will be solved by April 12,” Singh further said.
