Noida Police arrested five inter-state thieves from Sector 51, Noida, after a brief encounter on Friday night. The thieves were involved in stealing valuables from Gujarat Governor's daughter’s house in Noida.

The police have recovered a Pakistan-made revolver (stolen from the house of a retired general living in Sector 15A), two country-made pistols, 500 grams of gold, three kilograms of silver, one scooty and around Rs 39,000 in cash from their possession. Police said that the gang was involved in more than two dozen cases across the NCR.

According to the police, the accused identified as Sharif, Faheem, Arsalam, Farjana and Gautam Sehgal were arrested from Kendriya Vihar roundabout in Sector 51 during checking, following a tip-off.

“We had got a tip-off about three criminals were going to pass through Noida, Sector 51 road on Friday night, so we had placed checking points on the road. On spotting the accused, the police asked them to stop, but they fired at the police and tried to flee from the spot. However, they were overpowered and nabbed near the Kendriya Vihar roundabout," said Ajay Pal Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, GB Nagar.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused had been active in the NCR, and two women were also a part of the gang.

“On the information provided by the three, the other gang member, Farzana, Sharif’s sister, was arrested, while Sharif’s sister-in-law, Roshan, is absconding. On the day of the robbery at the Governor’s daughter’s house, CCTV footage showed Roshan, along with Sharif, roaming around in Sector 50,” said Sharma.

The modus operandi of the gang was that they used to roam around in different sectors and target all locked houses. The ladies used to take weapons along with them, break the locks and call others. Police said that the gang used to commit these crimes in broad daylight.

“During interrogation, Sharif revealed that after committing robbery they used to sell the gold items to Gautam Sehgal, who runs a jewellery shop in Khoda area of Ghaziabad. Later, Sehgal was also arrested from his shop,” said Sharma.

Police said that the gang had been active for the past 10 years and had built a five-storied house in Khoda village, which has also been seized.
