Sealing drive: SC asks Centre, Delhi govt to refrain from politicising issue Sealing drive in Delhi

Just a day before Delhi’s political leaders were about to make their stand clear on the ongoing sealing drive, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre, the Delhi government and other authorities to refrain from making it a political issue.

The traders based in Delhi had asked political leaders to share their views in a meeting scheduled on Tuesday.

“There are a few points and you please take these into account. This is not a political issue,” the Apex court said.

The developments came after the Central government informed the court that they have met with all the concerned agencies. The Central government also said that they proposed to set up a special task force for monitoring all the issues related to the unauthorised constructions.

City Spidey has confirmed that a meeting between the traders of Delhi and political leaders was scheduled on April 10. Praveen Khandelwal, general secretary of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said, "We have invited all political parties in Delhi to make their stand clear on this issue in a meeting scheduled on Tuesday."

The Apex court has also asked the concerned authorities to look into the aspects of fire safety especially in schools and massive depletion of ground water.

While hearing the same matter on April 4, the Supreme Court had said, “Delhi is suffering from problems such as pollution, parking and lack of green areas because of the issue arising out of unauthorised constructions.

In last two and a half months, all three municipal agencies of the national capital have sealed more than 4,000 shops which were found illegal in both residential and commercial areas across the city.

Sealing drive is being conducted against the unauthorised constructions and commercial establishments in residential colonies on the direction of the Supreme Court mandated committee.
