Sixty four senior citizens from Dwarka’s various housing societies looking forward to their joyous first overseas trip were duped by a Mumbai based travel agency, Globivo World Tours.

All of them had retired and were very anxious for the trip. They had also collected about Rs. 18 lakh for the purpose. However, their aspirations to visit the exotic locations of the gulf came to a grinding halt with the tour operator, Nrupathy Manay cancelling the trip just one day prior to the departure.

The would-be tourists, part of the Senior Citizen Association, Dwarka met the Special CP (Crime Branch), Delhi Police, RP Upadhyay on Tuesday in this regard.

The President of the Association, Balbir Singh Yadav told City Spidey that the police had assured them that their money would be recovered.

“I met the Special CP (Crime Branch), Delhi Police today around 5 PM and asked him to do something for us. He assured us that the culprit will be caught. Further, he also informed us that the Delhi Police would contact Thane Police Station in this regard”, said Yadav.

Yadav further added, “The tour was planned on December 2017 and we had to depart on 8th March. We opted for this operator because he was charging only Rs. 37,800 per person for a five-night, six-day trip. However, on 7th March he told us that the tour had been cancelled and said that the amount paid was not sufficient for the trip. We were frustrated and followed up the matter with the operator through emails and phone. Now we have lost our patience and have approached the police for justice.”

A case has been registered in this regard in the Dwarka South Police Station. Police said that the accused Nrupathy Manay of Globivo World Tours, Thane, Mumbai would be brought to Delhi this week.

The senior citizens said that the accused is in constant touch with them, while claiming that he intends to return them the complete amount. While sharing the communication with City Spidey, Balbir Singh Yadav said, “He is still saying that he would return the money. However, he is a fraud.”

On the other hand, Nrupathy Manay has given a veiled threat that if the senior citizens take the legal route, it will be a time consuming procedure for both the parties involved in the matter. He further said that he is ready to settle the matter in a peaceful manner by 30th April, 2018.
