Ghaziabad police arrested a Vaishali based couple on Tuesday for allegedly committing a property related fraud of an amount of more than three crore rupees. Pramod Tyagi and wife Kavita Tyagi, residents of Designarch society of Vaishali were arrested based on a complaint lodged by Satish Kumar, a resident of Ram Nagar in Ghaziabad.

According to Kumar, the Tyagi couple had become close family friends, a relationship which grew over a period of over eight years.

“The couple took around one crore rupees from me and two others for buying us land in Jewar. I later wanted to buy a penthouse to which Pramod Tyagi offered to sell me his own penthouse in Shipra Krishna Vista society, Indirapuram. We completed the registry of the penthouse at one crore thirty lakh rupees and I paid him one crore ten lakh rupees as there was a pending bank loan on the property. The market value of the penthouse was two crore forty lakh rupees then. The couple then told me that they had cleared the loan and handed over a file of documents after full payment of two crores and forty lakh rupees,” said Satish Kumar, who owns an export business of artificial jewellery.

“He sold me the penthouse no E-1105 in Shipra Krishna Vista. I realised that I have been duped and the loan had not been cleared when I approached the bank. I later inquired at the Ghaziabad Development Authority and found out that all the documents were forged. The couple owed me around three crore twenty lakh rupees and handed me a cheque of the same amount. However, the cheque bounced as there was no money in the account and it was issued in the name of Pramod Kumar and not Pramod Tyagi. When I went to the Tyagis' home and asked them to refund the money, they misbehaved with me and threatened me with dire consequences,” Satish further added.

Satish Kumar later lodged a complaint with the Jan Sunwai portal of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. Following the complaint, an FIR was lodged against the couple at the Sihani Gate police station under IPC (Indian Penal Code) sections 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust).

“A complaint was received at the SSP office and was later forwarded to us. An FIR was lodged after proper investigation. The documents were found to be supportive of the victim’s claims. Both the accused have been arrested and will be produced before the court,” said an official of the Sihani Gate police station.
