After the shocking incident of food poisoning in the premises of Step by Step school in Noida came to the fore, the district administration of Gautam Budh Nagar has found that canteen of Cambridge School in Sector 27 was operating without registration.

The Designated Officer of Food and Drug Administration of Gautam Budh Nagar, Sanjay Sharma, told City Spidey that they have imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the canteen owner and school.

The Food and Safety Department is carrying out the inspection of school canteens and is also taking samples of foods for testing post the frightening incident of kids falling prey to food served in the canteen of Step by Step school.

The officials also took samples of curd from Ramagya School in Sector 50. “The samples sent to Lucknow for testing and the report will come within two weeks,” Sharma added.

The team has also inspected Noida Public School in Sector 23, Brahmananda Public School in Sector 20 and Somerville School in Sector 20.

Sharma said that during the investigations at school, they also briefed students on what food they should eat and what should be avoided. The step to carry out investigations in all the schools has been taken on the order of District Magistrate.

“There are around 30 big schools in the city while there are several other technical colleges and smaller schools. Inspection of these premises has been ordered. The inspection will be carried out by the five food safety officers currently posted in the district,” Sharma said.

Around 190 students of Step by Step school in Sector 132 had fallen victim to food poisoning after having lunch in the school on April 6. The students had fallen ill after having the food and they complained of severe stomach ache and vomited. It is also alleged that immediately after the incident, the school’s administration had prevented district officials from inspecting the premises and held them at the gate for hours before allowing them inside.

The district administration had then lodged an FIR under sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) against the school management.
