Following the Step by Step school fiasco where kids fell ill after having food on the premises, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration on Thursday issued certain guidelines for the canteen running the schools.The guidelines issued by the district administration will be non-negotiable and it will be followed stringently by the schools. The step has been taken to ensure that no such incidents will happen in future.

The district administration said that the advisory has been issued after finding irregularities in foods provided by canteens in schools across the district.

If any school violates these rules then District Administration will impose a penalty of Rs 1 lakh or jail for 3 months and both can also be charged on the accused.

The advisory mentions that it will be mandatory for all the canteens to get registered under Food and Security Act of 2006 and the food security department should regularly check the food which they serve.

“We have issued the advisory so that the food supplied to the students in schools remain safe and healthy. There is a need to remind them about the guidelines which are needed to be followed and as it is a sensitive issue concerned with the health of kids, the advisory should be reminded to them so that no mishap occur in future” said B N Singh, district magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar.

Meanwhile, the administration has made checking of manufacturing and expiry dates of products mandatory. They have also reminded that nothing should be bought loose.

The administration has also warned that the students should not be provided with any junk food and potable water should be checked to ensure that it is well purified under the set parameters of TDS count.
