What's happening to the metal waste in Dwarka?

What’s one good use of metal waste? Well, SDMC has a solid answer for you. The statutes that you see — of animals, soldiers, people in different yoga postures — at various chowks in Dwarka is the answer.

These metal structures can be seen at Ashirvad Chowk, Kargil Chowk, at the chowk near the sports complex.

Mayor of SDMC, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, said to City Spidey, “Waste materials such as used tin box, motor parts, scrap metal, damaged equipment have been used for the statues. The place where these structures have been erected are also being beautified and maintained by the SDMC,” said Kamaljeet Sehrawat.

SDMC, after receiving repeated complaints from RWAs and residents about badly maintained chowks and intersections, got in touch with the DDA — it wanted to take over beautification and maintenance of chowks.

DDA agreed willingly.

Work on the chowk near the sports complex in Sector 11, Ashirvad Chowk, Kargil Chowk and at the intersection of Sector 22 has been completed. Work will start at other places too.

RWAs and residents have welcomed the initiative. In fact, they are coming up with locations for the beautification work.

RWA general secretary of Radhika Apartments in Sector 14, Anupam Yashovardhan, said, “At the chowk of Sector 13/14, there’s triangular patch that can be beautified. We want the SDMC to do something there.”

Similarly President of Federation of RWAs of Sector 9, Advocate KS Bhati, said, “All chowks have dead space around them, and this is a good way to utilise that space. This is a great effort, and will give Dwarka a unique look. We can have theme-specific statues — and we can all pitch in with suggestions.”
