FedAOA to kick-off anti-polythene campaign soon in Indirapuram

It is not a secret that usage of polythene has a hazardous impact on the environment but people have somehow continued with it. To curb its usage, the apex body of Apartment Owners Association, FedAOA, has decided to go ahead with an anti-polythene campaign in Indirapuram.

The campaign will start on April 14 and will last until April 21. The FedAOA intends to spread awareness about the rules and penalties to the people living in the area.

“Until lately, there were no clear regulations or penalties for polythene use in Indirapuram as the area does not come under the municipal corporation. Now that the Ghaziabad Development Authority(GDA) has made clear rules and penalties regarding the use of polythene, we can help in spreading awareness and implementing it,” said Alok Kumar, president of FedAOA.

In an order issued earlier this month, GDA made it clear that both sale and usage of polythene carry-bags was illegal and would draw penalties ranging from Rs 1,000 to 5,000.

Kumar said that the campaign is aimed at educating residents and shopkeepers about the environmental impact of polythene. “We will participate with GDA officials of the area in conducting drives and checks for polythene use,” Kumar further said.
