Builder in Sector 65, Gurgaon, fined for flouting NGT norms

Today, district town planning (DTP), Gurgaon, imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on a private builder for violating construction norms in Sector 65. A team from the enforcement department had inspected the site twice earlier to verify the complaints filed by the locals of nearby villages.

The locals of adjoining villages, such as Dhumaspur and Badshahpur, had sent a complaint to the CM’s Window.

The officials found that the construction site did not have a green sheet to prevent loose dust from polluting the air. The contractor hired for the construction also did not provide for a water-sprinkling system to settle dust during construction.

Moreover, the contractor was using fresh water either extracted from the ground, or taken the water mafia.

Narender Kumar, assistant town planner (ATP), enforcement, added, “Fresh water cannot be used for construction activities. Contractors need to file an affidavit that they will use recycled water for construction, but they don’t. We have sent notices to many other construction sites seeking adherence to NGT guidelines.”

Rajender T Sharma, district town planner (DTP), enforcement, said, “The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has laid down strict guidelines in this regard, and we have directed contractors to abide by them. The construction site in question was violating NGT norms, and also failed to respond to our show cause notice.”

Mohit Khatana, a resident of Dhumaspur, said, “This is an under-construction school building owned by a reputed chain. We requested the contractor repeatedly to put a green cover to prevent loose dust from entering our homes, but no one listened. We then sent a complaint to the CM’s Window. Finally things are moving.”
