NHAI finally obtains plot for underpass construction on MG Road

Finally, a plot on MG Road with a petrol pump on it will be transferred to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete construction of an L-shaped underpass.

The win comes after a nine-month-long battle.

HUDA has been trying to resolve the issue by allocating an alternative site to the owner to shift the petrol pump, but litigation delayed each attempt — and with it the construction of the underpass.

On Thursday, HUDA handed over the possession of the alternative plot at Sector 42 to the pump owner after the local court vacated the stay on the plot.

Last hearing on the issue took place on April 9.

Bharat Bhushan Gogia, estate officer (EO-II) HUDA, said, “The court vacated the stay and we secured our land in Sector 42 and handed it over to the owner of Karan Filling Station (MG Road petrol pump).”

Ameya One had obtained a stay against HUDA’S plan to allow petrol pump on the alternative site in Sector 42. Ameya One Building is a large commercial establishment on Golf Course Road in Sector 42 that has been rented out to Diwan Saheb, a garment chain. Its owners had objected to HUDA’S plan on the grounds that the site was earmarked as a taxi stand by the department and cannot be used for a petrol pump.

A petition was filed in the local court in February.

Surender Diwan, the owner of Diwan Saheb, said, “We are consulting our legal team to plan the next course of action. For precautionary reasons, we cannot allow a petrol pump at this site that is earmarked as a taxi stand in the original layout of HUDA.”
