Ghaziabad has recently seen a spike in the number of people dying in high rise societies. There have been a series of incidents like accidental falls and suicides in district in the recent past and one such incident had also claimed the life of a four-year-old. These incidents have mostly been reported from high rises in Indirapuram, Raj Nagar Extension, Crossings Republik and Govindpuram.

Tragedy struck a society in Indirapuram’s Amrapali village where a 25-year-old woman was found hanging in a flat on Monday evening. Police said that two other flatmates of the deceased were sleeping in a separate room at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the victim Priyanka Verma, lived in a tenth floor flat with other women tenants. The flat was functioning as a paying guest accommodation. The deceased is a native of Kota, Rajasthan and worked in a private company in Noida. She had shifted to the flat only a month ago.

“Around five women were living as paying guests in flat BH 1003 which has three bedrooms. We have learnt that the incident came to light at around 5pm when one of the occupants, who was outside, returned to the flat,” said Sonu Malhotra, a resident of the society.

The police said that apart from the victim, two other occupants were also present in the flat at the time of the tragedy.

“Two women were sleeping in an adjoining bedroom while the incident took place. The sleeping women discovered the incident when a fourth flatmate entered the flat and saw Verma hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Sachin Malik, SO of Indirapuram police station.

“Prima facie it looks like a case of suicide but no suicide note has been found. We have seized the victim’s mobile phone and have sent the body for post mortem examination. The case is being investigated,” Malik added.
