Maid nabbed for loot to the tune of Rs 30 lakh from an I'puram society

Ghaziabad police nabbed a domestic help yesterday for allegedly stealing cash and valuables to the tune of Rs 30 lakh from a flat in Krishna Apra Sapphire society in Vaibhav Khand area of Indirapuram.

The maid, identified as Suman, was working as a domestic help at flat no. A-206, owned by chartered account Abhishek Mathur.

The maid was residing in Pratap Vihar in Vijay Nagar.

“I discovered money missing from the flat for the first time around five months back. After that, it started happening regularly. For the first few months, I thought maybe I was calculating wrong, or was misplacing the money. But then I realised that money was being stolen from the safe. Recently, I installed CCTV cameras inside my flat to record the theft. Everything is clear in the CCTV footage. I let her steal for two days and then I informed the police. She was arrested from the flat in the morning yesterday,” said Mathur.

The maid would steal small amounts from larger stacks of notes, and she would do this despite the presence of family members inside the house. “For example, from a bundle of Rs 50,000, she would steal Rs 10,000-15,000. At times, she would even steal whole bundles,” Mathur recounted.

However, the maid did not steal on the day of her arrest. “She did not steal on that day — maybe she sensed that something was wrong,” Mathur added.

Police sources confirmed that they completely recovered the cash and valuables stolen from the flat.

“Stolen valuables include Rs 23 lakh in cash and gold items. The maid was arrested from the society premises following surveillance,” said Anil Kumar, in charge of Shipra Suncity police post.

Members of the society AOA maintained that it was police verification of the maid that helped in recovering the valuables. “We learned that the stolen items were recovered from her home. We had all the documents of the maid and also had the details verified from the police,” said Brajesh Sharma, AOA general secretary.
