SP representative leads homebuyers’ protest from the front Sujan Anand (centre) along with the women activists of Sector 107

Meeting of the women activists with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seems to have paid off. The ruling Samajwadi Party has woken up to the woes of the homebuyers vis-à-vis builders of Sector 107.

Two days after a group of woman homebuyers called on the CM on Friday to apprise him the problems they are facing due to the delay in possession of their flats, Sujan Anand, national president of Samajwadi Party's women's wing, on Monday took part in a protest outside Noida Authority office at Sector 6.

The Samajwadi representative was present when they handed over a memorandum to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Noida Authority urging him to take immediate steps to ensure transfer of the possession of the flats.

The women activists of the sector, Sunita Durrani, Heena Jain, Deepsikha Khanna, Sucheta Sohal and other homebuyers have been seeking an appointment with the CEO for quite some time without success. But this time they succeeded in meeting him with the help of Sujan Anand who was leading the protest from the front.

Speaking to the media, Anand said she herself conveyed the grievances of the homebuyers to Rama Raman and urged him to take personal interest in resolving the issue at the earliest. She said that chairman assured them that homebuyers would be updated about the action the authority is going to initiate.

Sunita Durrani, who is a homebuyer of Lotus 300, demanded that the builder should pay penalty to the buyers for not giving possession of their flats on time. The demand for compensation reflects toughening of the stand of the homebuyers vis-à-vis builders.

Defending the demand, they said in case of non-payment or pending payment, a builder charges 18 per cent interest for the unpaid amount. Now that the builder has failed to meet the deadline, why the homebuyers should not get interest on more than 70 to 100 per cent of the cost already paid by them.

They have made it clear that till they get their compensation, they will continue their campaign.
