While interacting with residents of Sector-40, Haryana Public Works Department (PWD) minister Rao Narbir on Wednesday informed that Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) project’s portion between Kundi to Manesar will be completed by June 10.

Narbir vowed that the traffic load on the roads of Gurgaon will be permanently eased after the completion of road construction.

The minister further said that the heavy diesel vehicles will be stopped from entering Gurugram and it will help in controlling the pollution level in Gurgaon. He said that only CNG vehicles will be allowed.

Earlier on April 9, Haryana industry minister Vipul Goel had said KMP inauguration of the remaining portion (Kundli to Manesar) will be done sometime in May.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to inaugurate the KMP on April 29 but it has been delayed now. Along the 135 km KMP, industrial clusters will be developed and that will boost the state economy. KMP was to be completed in 2010 but it got delayed in the previous government,” Narbir said.

The construction work of KMP project was given to concessionaire KMP Expressway Limited on January 31, 2006, with a deadline in 2010. They were also given toll collection provision period of 20 years.

When the concessionaire failed to meet the deadline even after the four years of extension, the matter landed in court.

An official of the Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) said that the Supreme Court had directed the state government to award the contract to new a concessionaire in 2015.

“Following direction of Supreme Court, Haryana government terminated KMP Expressway Limited on March 19, 2015, and allotted to Essel Infra Projects Limited,” said HSIIDC official.

“We want that the western peripheral expressway (KMP) becomes operational and all heavy vehicles stop running on Delhi Gurgaon expressway, which is a major cause of traffic congestion and vehicle pollution,” said Suresh Sharma, a resident of Sector 15.

“All the heavy vehicles from Punjab use Gurgaon and Delhi roads on way to Mumbai. NH 8 is a nightmare in the night due to the high volume of heavy vehicles,” added Sharma.
