RESIDENT SPEAK: 'Let alone a Smart City, we've not achieved basic sanitation'

AK Parashar, a resident of Sri Agrasen Apartments  in Sector 7, Dwarka, talks about the failed sanitation drive of the SDMC.

RESIDENT SPEAK: 'Let alone a Smart City, we've not achieved basic sanitation'

The condition of public toilets in a park maintained by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in Sector 7 is a true picture of the corporations' much-touted sanitation initiative. The toilet blocks in question are near Gokul Garden.

While the SDMC claims to have attained the goal of open defecation free (ODF) under its jurisdiction, the reality is different. The pathetic condition of toilets or their non-availability forces people to opt of open defecation.

The vacant and isolated plots in Sector 7 show how ODF still remains a distant dream — even as SDMC continues to stubbornly claim that the area is well-equipped with toilets and there’s no open defecation.

Crores of public money, collected under Swatch Bharat Mission as cess, has gone to waste and the ground realities say as much.

How one can talk of a Smart City when even basic sanitation standards cannot be attained in Dwarka!
