Indirapuram: Severe water crisis in ATS society; AOA to request for bore well ATS Advantage in Indirapuram

The management of ATS Advantage, a top-notch high-rise in Indirapuram, is struggling to meet the water requirement of the society. Water scarcity problem started since the onset of summer and it has continued in last two weeks. The entire society, which has a total of 1962 flats, is totally dependent on Ganga water supplied by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).

According to the Apartment Owners Association (AoA) of the society, the scarcity of water has been caused due to erratic supply from the GDA, absence of groundwater supply and increased consumption in summer.

“The water supply from the GDA has not been steady and we are entirely reliant on Ganga water. Moreover, the consumption also increased with rise in temperature. We did not see this problem during the cooler rainy days. Water rationing has been reinstated and is active on alternative days,” said Sanjay Jain, president of the society’s AoA.

When asked about the next course of action since the problem will only aggravate with the coming summer months, Jain said that the AoA might seek permission for bore wells from the authorities to address the scarcity.

Meanwhile, the GDA is also conducting its camps for collecting sewer and water charges from the society. “Last week, we submitted around Rs 32 lakh as sewer and water charges to the GDA. The camps are going on. On approaching, officials told us that there has been no change in supply and is being carried out as usual,” Jain said.

Residents of the society said that they did not have a steady supply of water and were ready to approach authorities for a bore well. “We are living in a very sought after society of the city and we do not have steady access to an amenity as basic as water,” said a resident.

According to maintenance staff of the society, the society is entirely dependent Ganga water supply from the GDA.

Residents of this top-notch high-rise had resorted to storing water in household containers while the management had to call in water tankers to replenish the society’s water reservoir.

“We managed a full day supply today. We are unsure of tomorrow or day after as the supply is not steady,” said a management staff of ATS Advantage.

Maintenance staff of the society earlier told City Spidey that the bore wells of the society ran dry a few years back and the society is dependent on Ganga water ever since.

GDA officials could not be contacted as repeated calls went unanswered.
