Filing an FIR for cyber crime will now be as easy as sending an e-mail.

Noida Police is all set to launch a new cyber cell in Sector 6, with a specialist from Karnataka, Venkatesh Murthy, roped in to train personnel. It took Rs 1.25 crore to set up the cell, which will be inaugurated by the DGP of UP Police, Javeed Ahmed, on May 9.

The cyber cell has been developed in consultation with NASSCOM and will be called Centre for Excellence in Cyber Crime and Investigation. In the days to come, police personnel manning the centre will start training their counterparts in other parts of the state.

A new website developed by the cell will enable Noida residents to register a cyber-crime complaint with just the click of a button. They just need to mention the nature of the complaint and add their phone number, and the system generates a One Time Password (OTP) that will help them file a complaint on the site.

SP City Dinesh Yadav is in charge of the cell. "The complainant will receive a copy of the FIR on his e-mail. The duty officer of the cyber cell will pass on the case to the investigating officer, who will contact the complainant for further investigations. The case will then be formally registered at the police station as per the area of jurisdiction," he said.

The cell will also have an in-house forensic lab.
