Frustrated over no headway, NEFOWA escalates possession issue to minister

To discuss the issue of buyer-builder confrontation over delayed possession, the members of Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) met UP excise minister and minister-in-charge of Gautam Budh Nagar Jai Pratap Singh on Thursday.

NEFOWA members also handed over a written letter requesting Singh to take proper action in the direction of solving the issue. The meeting was held at Gautam Budh Nagar University.

Jai Pratap Singh and UP Industries Minister Satish Mahana had come for a review meeting of all three authorities of Gautam Budh Nagar including Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Authority.

According to the members, when the BJP government came into power last year, they had assured that they will solve the problem of flat buyers.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath had also formed a three minister panel to solve this issue in August last year. But even after 8 months of forming this panel, the situation is same for the buyers. More than two lakh flat buyers are fighting to get the possession of flats in Gautam Budh Nagar.

Shweta Bharti, secretary of NEFOWA told City Spidey that the construction works of most of the projects in the district have been stopped or being done in a slow pace.

“The government is claiming that they will provide houses to 35 thousand people but this figure is very low. The flats whose possession has been given include projects where construction work was almost complete and they were only left to get the completion certification. No one talked about those projects where builders were behind the bars or absconding and the work has been stopped,” Bharti said.

She also said that no action has been taken by the government or police on the FIR against the builder. Talking about the FIR, police told the buyers that if the builder will be behind the bars then how they will get the flats.

"The Noida and Greater Noida authority also issued occupancy and completion certificate without the physical inspection. Moreover, the buyers, who have been shifted to these projects, do not have access to basic amenities which should have been provided by the builder,” NEFOWA members said.

"Minister-in-charge assured us that he will talk on the issue with the panel of three ministers and the Chief Minister to solve it as soon as possible,” Bharti said.
