The eagerly-awaited section of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line connecting Kalkaji Mandir to Janakpuri West is likely to be opened for use next week.

On Thursday, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) concluded the safety inspection of the 25.6 km section and gave it a green signal.

As a result, the full stretch from Botanical Garden (Noida) to Janakpuri West will be opened to the public and Terminal-I of Indira Gandhi International Airport will also get the Metro link for the first time. Not only this, the distance from Gurgaon to Noida could be completed in just 50 minutes.

There are 16 new metro stations in this section. Two stations, Hauz Khas and Janakpuri West will provide interchange facility to the passengers.

As this section opens, areas such as Vasant Vihar, Munirka, IIT, Greater Kailash, Chirag Dilli and other localities of south Delhi will find themselves on the Delhi metro map. Further, the travel distance between these regions to Noida and West Delhi will also decrease.

A 12.6-km section of the corridor between Botanical Garden in Noida and Kalkaji Mandir was already inaugurated in December 2017 and metro service had begun on the route.

Until now, the Blue Line was the only metro connectivity for residents of Noida to reach West Delhi and other areas of Delhi-NCR and vice versa. Commuting in NCR will be easier for city residents as this corridor will pass through areas like Palam, Dabri, Mahavir Enclave, Sagarpur and Dasharathpur.

Although the express line reaches Terminal 3, earlier there used to be no metro connectivity for the domestic terminals of IGI Airport. However, with the help of so many interchange points, passengers can now easily access this terminal.

For passengers travelling from south Delhi areas, the journey to the airport will now be of just 20 minutes’ duration, while from other parts of NCR, the commute could take between 35 and 50 minutes.
