GDA mulls GPS-enabled vehicles to address inconsistent garbage collection

After the repeated complaints of inconsistent garbage collection in Indirapuram, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has started searching for new companies which will be having GPS-enabled vehicles to collect garbage.

With GPS-enabled vehicles, the GDA will be having information about door-to-door garbage collection in Indirapuram. The failure to collect garbage will be easily tracked with GPS-enabled vehicles.

The GDA will now demand GPS-enabled vehicles from the garbage collection companies. There have always been complaints about vehicles failing to reach houses to collect garbage on daily basis.

After receiving several complaints, the GDA had initiated an investigation and found the residents’ claims to be true. The employees were found to be overlooking garbage collection on daily basis. The GDA will also install new dustbins in Indirapuram. Advanced machines will be used to clean the area.

GDA vice-chairperson Ritu Maheshwari said, “Modern equipments will be used to collect garbage. The officials have been asked to make proposals for door-to-door garbage collection in Indirapuram. The residents of Indirapuram may be asked to pay extra amount for garbage collection.”

At present, GDA is collecting Rs 3.35 per square metre. Officials are of the view that the charges to collect garbage may increase by Rs 1 per square metre with the GPS-enabled vehicles. However, the final amount will only be out once the proposal will get finalised.

After the new proposal, any company will be given responsibility through a tender process.
