Uppal Southend flat burgled in broad daylight

Residents of Uppal Southend in Sector 49, Gurgaon, just can't seem to rest easy these days. After being caught up in controversial RWA elections, which left many angry and harassed, it now finds itself at the centre of a shocking theft in broad daylight.

Flat S 283, belonging to Banu Shree Biswas, was broken into on Tuesday morning, and cash and jewellery worth lakhs stolen.

Biswas said the robbers took two gold necklaces, three gold chains, 16 gold rings and Rs 6,000 in cash while she was away from home for two hours.

"I left for Big Bazaar around 10.30 am," Biswas said. "When I came back two hours later, I saw the main door broken and the entire house ransacked. The cupboards and lockers were broken and all the gold jewellery and cash were missing. I called up the Sadar police station and police control room immediately."

A police team headed by the Sadar police station SHO, Vijay Kumar, reached the flat soon after the incident.

"We have registered an FIR against unknown persons under the relevant IPC section," Kumar said. "We are waiting for the CCTV footage, which could help us identify the suspect. We have found fingerprints with the help of our forensic team."

Biswas had been home alone for the past few days, as her husband was out of town. "Someone must have kept a close watch on my flat," she said.

This is the second burglary in an upscale residential society in Gurgaon in the past one week that falls under the jurisdiction of the same police station. On Friday afternoon four thieves looted a grocery shop in Mayfield Gardens and stole a gold ring from the shopkeeper. The accused were caught on camera with the help of CCTV footage.
