Dwarka: SC committee seals garages for carrying out commercial activities

After the intervention of monitoring committee of the Supreme Court, scooter garages in Sri Awas Apartments in Sector-18B was sealed on Tuesday for carrying out commercial activities. The sealing drive was conducted by the team of monitoring committee and officials of DDA and Municipal Corporation.

The Residents Welfare Association of the society had earlier filed a complaint in the Supreme Court regarding the premise being used for commercial purpose for a long time.

President of RWA of the society, SPS Tomar said to City Spidey, “We had been following the subject for more than a year and finally we got relief with this action. The commercial activities by some influential people were creating the nuisance.”

“Earlier, we approached the DDA and MCD but nothing happened. Then, we approached the monitoring committee of the Supreme Court. We had a talk with Bhure Lal from the monitoring committee and he assured to take action. Today we got a success and that too with the support of the monitoring committee,” added Tomar.

Tomar said that the society is having more than 800 flats and more than 70 scooter garages were suffering from the commercial activities. According to him, a circular was issued by the RWA to stop such activities.

“We issued them a circular suggesting closure of commercial activities. Most of them understood the subject and about 40 people stopped it. But remaining 30 garages were in use to run commercial activities. Out of those 30, 21 have been sealed and the remaining 10 requested to vacate the garage immediately. 15 days have been given to them to shift the goods,” said Tomar.

The residents of the society are happy with the sealing. They are expressing their views on social media and in Whatsapp groups in Dwarka. They are appreciating administration for their action and also advocating more such actions in other societies where such commercial practice is rampant.

Rohit Kapoor, a resident of the society, said, “This was really a tough task but thanks to monitoring committee as they did it. Shopkeepers took our RWA to court also, they threatened them as well. We were waiting for more than 10 months.”
