Unlike Huda, MCG fails to construct many proposed multilevel car parking

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram is way richer than the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) but they have not been successful in constructing proposed multilevel car parking unlike the other.

The MCG has proposed many multilevel car parking facilities at Kaman Sarai, Huda City Centre Metro station, Rajiv Chowk, Sadar Bazaar and DLF Phase 3 since 2009 but the work has gone beyond the inception stage.

So far, the MCG has only identified has three locations for building multilevel car parking in Kaman Sarai, Hidayatpur Chhawani and Sikanderpur Ghosi. These multilevel parking were announced by Kavita Jain, Urban Local Bodies minister (ULB), in Chandigarh on March 17.

“The MCG is working towards making a proposal for each of the three shortlisted sites as announced by ULB minister two months ago for building a multilevel parking. Once compiled, the proposals will be sent to ULB for approval,” Sudhir Singh Chauhan, senior town planner of MCG, said.

If approved by ULB, the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) will be the consultants for the project,” he said.

The officials of MCG have claimed that they are finding it difficult to find a location where multilevel parking will be built. They said that the areas, where multilevel parking is proposed, are very congested.

They also informed that the sites which have been selected for constructing multilevel parking are not economically viable as they are not close to crowded areas.

Due to space constraints, the proposed multilevel parking at Sadar Bazar was rejected. Then, the site was changed to Kaman Sarai which was only a kilometre away from Sadar Bazar. But, as the location was very far from Sadar Bazar, the officials conceded that it would not be economically viable.

The ULB was not happy with the proposal to acquire land Shama Restaurant, Sainik Board office and government officers’ colony for Sadar Bazar project.

The multilevel project in DLF Phase 3 got stuck because the MCG was successful in acquiring land belonging to the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) near Neelkanth Hospital.

The MCG had demanded feasibility report of proposed multilevel parking at Rajiv Chowk but the concerned official has been transferred.
