Delhi HC asks MCDs to take action against illegal water cooling plants in city

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed Delhi Municipal Corporations (MCDs) to take action against water cooling plants which are illegally operating in the city and violating the norms of the master plan.

The court issued notices to all the three MCDs and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) seeking their response on a plea by an NGO which has alleged that the water cooling plants operating in commercial streets are violating the master plan of Delhi.

As per the information, the NGO had claimed that the orders for punitive action against such units by the municipal health officer of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and other senior officials have been disrespected by its own officials.

The NGO had also claimed, “Despite the orders were given and the water cooling plants in the notified commercial streets found to be illegal, no action has yet been taken.”

Taking note of the submissions, the court directed the EDMC to take proper action as ordered by its municipal health officers and submit the report on September 19. Two other civic bodies (SDMC and NDMC) were directed to physically inspect such units in their areas.
