The union urban development ministry had filed a fresh plea saying there was no need to take suggestions or objections from the public.
The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected Centre’s plea for seeking amendments in Delhi Master Plan (MPD-2021) without taking suggestions of resident welfare associations (RWA) in the city. Now, the changes cannot be incorporated without involving the citizens of the city.
After a series of events that affected sealing drive and formation of the Special Task Force (STF), the Apex court had partly modified its stay order on the proposed amendments in MPD-2021 on May 15.
The Supreme Court had issued a direction to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to involve RWAs and citizens before making any changes.
After that, the union urban development ministry had filed a fresh plea saying there was no need to take suggestions or objections from the public. While rejecting the plea the court said, “We have not acceded the request (of Centre and DDA) seeking modification of our order.”
On May 15, the Apex court had accepted DDA’s action plan where it had listed steps including launching an interactive website and a smartphone application to enable the public register their grievances regarding illegal constructions. The authority was given 15 days time to make it operational.
The DDA had also proposed to fix responsibilities to officials in case of illegal construction activities in the national capital and violation of the master plan.
The Master Plan-2021 is a blueprint for urban planning and expansion in the metropolitan city to ensure overall development.
Here, it would be pertinent to mention that earlier when DDA had proposed to amend in Delhi Master Plan- 2021, the RWAs had strongly opposed it.
