As per power discoms, the peak demand in the city was 6529 MW on Thursday.
The mercury has breached the 45 degrees Celsius mark in Delhi and as a result the usage of ACs and coolers have also increased. The electricity distribution companies (discoms) have estimated that the peak power demand would surpass 7,000 MW by the end of May. This is more than the record demand of 6,553 MW witnessed in the previous summer.
TPDDL (Tata Power Delhi Distribution) and BSES (BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna) are the two major power suppliers in the national capital. TPDDL caters to subscribers in North and Northwest Delhi, while BSES serves customers in South, West, Central and East Delhi.
As per power discoms, the peak demand in the city was 6529 MW on Thursday. The discoms however claimed to have made prior arrangements to meet the soaring demand.
In a press note issued on Friday, the discoms informed that peak demand in BSES’ area is expected to rise by 8 percent to 4550 MW, while demand in TPDDL’s area is expected to rise between 1800 MW to 1850 MW.
In order to cater to the increased power demands, BSES claimed to have made banking arrangements for 525 MW with other states such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. TPDDL too claimed to have made similar arrangements with others states.
“We have made long-term tie-ups and other suitable arrangements to cater to the increasing power demands. There would be no shortage of power in Delhi at least up to 8000 MW,” said a BSES official.
